A Look Back at 2014 From Coaster B-Rad’s Perspective

Hey all you Coaster Fans!  This is Coaster B-Rad, .  I have been an avid fan of Cedar Point since before I can remember.  The place feels like home to me.  Cedar Point has brought me more happy memories than any other place on earth!  There are so many memories from this past summer I cannot possibly list them all here but I will do my best to talk about the ones that really stand out!  This is Cedar Point from my perspective for 2014!

  • In February I had the pleasure of visiting the park in the winter when there was snow at the Winter Chill Out!  I enjoyed seeing how the park has everything closed during the winter and even saw trains being worked on in the maintenance shop.  Tony Clark really went above and beyond giving us an amazing lunch, presentation about what new things we could expect for 2014, a 2014 calendar, a voucher to ride SlingShot when it opened, and a lineskippie to use during the season!

  • Media Day was an incredible experience.  I had the pleasure of being one of the first to experience the new and improved Gemini Midway while riding two brand new rides, Lake Erie Eagles and Pipe Scream.  While having experienced Surf Dog at Kings Island, which is just like Pipe Scream, I had never experienced a Flying Scooters type of ride before.  It was awesome and way underrated!10411048_10105177260530315_889300998170360355_n
  • OSU Day was the following day and was a great way to show pride for the best college football team in the nation!  So much team spirit was shown in the park!

  • Finally the day after OSU Day was the official opening day of Cedar Point!  I had the privilege of having the new All Season Dining Plan which was new to the park this year.  This was such a benefit to have as it can save you so much money when you visit the park as often as me!

  • The park’s PR spokesperson, Tony Clark really does so much for coaster enthusiasts.  He does what is called a Tweetup on Twitter where he has you find him or a fellow employee somewhere in the park and he gives away prizes such as Fast Lane Plus, LineSkippies, and Special Edition Coins!

  • Millennium Walkback is one of my favorite things that the park added for 2014.  As a recognized card carrying coaster club member, I could get into the park ten minutes early on Saturdays and Sundays to ride my personal favorite roller coaster, Millennium Force before the general public!  It’s such a great feeling to be on the first ride of the day on the world’s number one steel roller coaster!1380667_10105177051618975_385705907173795512_n
  • CoasterMania! was an incredible event that Cedar Point really went all out on this year!  So much ERT (Extra Ride Time) before the park opened and after the park closed, lots of free gear, and so much food!  My favorite part of the entire event however was something that caught me completely off guard.  Something that really showed Cedar Point cares about its enthusiasts.  A ride on the Jet Express around the peninsula!  This was such a fantastic opportunity for video and pictures from a point of view most enthusiasts have never been able to see before, including myself!

  • This year, 2014 was the Anniversary year for lots of Cedar Point rides including the famous Blue Streak!  Blue Streak has been around for fifty years and Cedar Point had a great celebration with the local Sandusky band, a presentation from ACE (the American Coaster Enthusiasts), and free goodies such as tumblers, shirts, pins, cake, and cupcakes!  Cedar Point really knows how to throw a party!10734146_10105181017770775_6073144950515760913_n
  • Beach Blast was a great thing the park did this year!  The beach needed some attention as it is one of the park’s greatest assets but is often forgotten!  Having a band, food, games, and fireworks, this really showed Cedar Point cares about every guest’s experience and not just the experience of the average coaster enthusiast!

  • I had the pleasure of making a great friend named Henry Sievers this summer.  The man had ridden Mean Streak almost 13,000 times and was known around the park as Mean Streak Henry.  I wanted to do something special for his 13,000th ride so with the help of a few coaster friends, we made his 13,000th ride on Mean Streak extra special, giving him a poster and having around 40 of his friends enjoy his ride with him!

  • Coaster Campout was such an incredible experience!  To be able to camp in a tent, overnight, at the rollercoaster capital of the world was something truly special!  A free blanket, amazing food, smores, ERT, and so much more, it was an enthusiasts dream come true!  Then the unthinkable happened.  At 2am, Camp Rou was attacked by a witch and a werewolf, giving us all a preview of HalloWeekends!10377638_604529219645044_7413237990992289467_n
  • Cedar Point gave a fantastic preview of HalloWeekends at the HalloWeekends Party!  We were treated to ERT, food, a HalloWeekends hoodie, and a first look at the new haunt for 2014, HeXed!  They really went all out in spoiling us at this event!fl_skeletonkey
  • Near the end of August during some ERT on my favorite ride, Millie, I got to get a ride with the #SelfieQueen herself, Jenny Fiedler!  We had been friends on Facebook for quite some time but that was the extent of our friendship.  After a selfie with her, we decided we should hangout at the park sometime in the near future.  In just over a month, we went from being barely acquaintances to becoming #BestFriends!  After getting to know each other more, we realized we were #CoasterTwins.  It seemed we had almost the exact same taste in coasters, including a very similar top ten list of favorite coasters and lots of similarities in what we liked at the park!  Jenny is like the sister I never had.  We have so much fun together!  Gaining a #BestFriend at the park is honestly my favorite memory from the entire season.  I wouldn’t trade Jenny as a #BestFriend for anything!  #BestFriends4Life  #CoasterTwins #CoasterBaes

  • After the success of Henry’s 10,000th ride celebration I wanted to do something special for another one of my good coaster friends, Peggy Cicinelli.  Peggy was about to celebrate her 2,000th ride on GateKeeper.  That may not sound like much, until you realize GateKeeper had not even been open for two years!  This woman rides GateKeeper religiously!  We presented her with a poster and a special ride on GateKeeper with all her friends that came to ride with her!  Over thirty people showed up to support the PegKeeper!16784_10203716481371630_4166140393596928151_n
  • With Mantis’ life coming to a close, I wanted to try and get a lanyard from a park employee to “Take the Last Stand” on Mantis.  Jenny and I worked as a team asking every park employee we saw if we could take the last stand on Mantis!  With much persistence we finally found two lanyards near Luminosity and our friend Jarred and Jenny’s brother Matt each found one in a haunted house!  We were treated to not only the last ride on Mantis, but also a group photo and a goodie bag of Mantis stuff!1897691_648140785283887_8772745808142901796_n
  • Closing Weekend is always a weekend filled with mixed feelings and emotions.  It is so hard to give up something you do every week for half a year and just stop cold turkey for the other half!  I made the most of it though, spending time with the #BestFriend as much as I could as well as lots of other coaster friends!  One of my favorite moments from closing weekend was eating at Pink’s and my favorite food service person at the park KiKi came up to Jenny and I and asked to get an “Ussie” with us!  It was so funny!  At the end of closing day, I was filled with emotion not only because my favorite place in the world was closing for the season, but also because I had to say goodbye to my #BestFriend.  We would not be able to ride Millie again together for another six months!  I would be lying if I said there were not some tears.

  • That’s my year at Cedar Point in a nutshell!  Of course, this does not even scratch the surface of all the fun I had this year!  I have made so many friends and had so many memories it makes me tear up just to think of it all!  A BIG THANK YOU to all our fans and here’s to an even greater 2015 season!  Rougarou!!!
