Are you ready for Rougarou? A new Floorless Experience coming to Cedar Point in 2015! Rougarou is named after a legendary werewolf that haunts swamps just like Rougarou’s location! As riders exit the station, they face a steep climb, then a test drop, prior to dropping them into a loop. Numerous inversions follow throughout the course, but remember riders are no longer going through them while standing up but now experiencing them with no track underneath!
Before Rougarou, this coaster was called Mantis. Mantis was announced on September 8, 1995 as the tallest, fastest, and steepest stand-up roller coaster on the planet. The ride was originally painted with purple supports, yellow and red track with unpainted rails. In 2003 the rails were painted red. For the 2015 this coaster gets a whole new theme, name, train, and even more! Rougarou has an orange track and teal supports!
World Records When Called Mantis:
- Tallest stand-up roller coaster at 144 feet
- Fastest stand-up roller coaster at 60 miles per hour
- Steepest stand-up roller coaster at 52 degrees
- First roller coaster to feature an inclined loop
Fun Facts About Rougarou/Mantis:
- Originally named Banshee, however, five days later Cedar Point announced the name change to Mantis, due to the negative connotation with the word Banshee
- Cedar Fair held onto the trademarked name Banshee and used it in 2014 at its sister park Kings Island to name their new B&M invert coaster
